First day of the rest of my life....
I'm one of the lucky ones. I have to admit. I have had a great life. Im 33 years old, have a good job, in excellent health (other than this cumbersome sprained ankle I am nursing) and I have the most amazing family and friends. The best part is I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT. Not because I'm rich or famous, (yet) but because everyone who has a mind to do something can do anything they want. I know I know it sounds so cliche, but this is undeniably true. The mind is a thing that most of us take for granted most of the time. We are conditioned to do what we are told....ie: get up in the morning, go to work, do what your boss says, get off work at exactly a certain time, go home, eat dinner, watch a little boob tube and then go to bed just to start the rigmarole all over again the following day. Now, I too have been conditioned to follow in the conformity of the rat race. I live in New York City (a dream of mine since the first day I ever met this city) and I must say, out of all the cities I have had the opportunity to visit, I have to say this beautiful city is one that expands beyond the boundaries of the usual. People here work all hours of the days and weeks and hustle to make ends meet like I have never experienced before. The city truly never sleeps. I have a love affair with this city that I believe supersedes any of the lush beaches or sexy Euro night life that has been a privilege to encounter in my life. Even though this city offers just about a zillion ways to see things we have never seen before, there are way too many people that have never been outside of New York. Now, I have lived in a few different places before now, including Atlanta and Phoenix and even in Canada for a short stint. It's amazing to me that I know this many healthy working Americans, that have never been on a plane, or been outside of the confines of where they were born or have lived for decades. Think about your friends or family members that can count the number of times they have been on a plane or out of state on one hand in the past 5 years. I am well aware of the monetary situation and economic crisis that is going on but come on people....EXPAND your horizons. i would like to make it a mission to get people out of their homes and into something that might change their lives.
